Week 2

Gamification

Going though gamification ideas and videos, video can be a Catch-22 with research as a topic has to be boiled down to 10 mins and still be entertaining for the end user, which therefore the medium can take over the message.

While looking over gamification, I came across the original definition of the topic, the way of adding game systems and theory into non-game-like systems, which is great until I started looking more into them. A video from Struthless made me start to think about the negatives of gamification from not being a designer and being a user, and it can be frightening what the core idea of gamification can go on to be. It can help users, like Duolingo with it being very clear with how you can learn languages, to Tinder using your feeling of loneliness to make you spend more money.

Thinking about the idea of catch-up with gacha games, oops the free things that had a low chance that we rigged didn’t work, spend more money. People know this, but they still spend money because the drive of what they want has been told through so well that there was no other choice.

With humans relying on tech more and more, this will become a bigger thing within the tech world and will have people looking into more ways to see

Unity

Looking at unity again to look in to making a game or visual intercative thing, who knows. But at this time, everytime i think about my ideas and what i can do it feels like any other medium would not be able to show what kind ideas i have, so i have kinda thought about it a bit more and might add some ar to my project to help with having things finished, and can be a good way to have a quick visual mock up of what i might want with in unity

starting off learning unity again i wanted to kinda just go though a project, not really thinking about what im learning and just getting something done, like cooking a meal from a recipe, sometimes, its better to have something finished, than rethinking if you have chopped the onions right

So i worked on a Chess Tutoral off youtube on making chess in unity and it was a tiring way to get back in to unity, granted i dont think any way wouldnt have been some what tiring, but problems started to arise when i got to the 7 ep with wonderful comments like this

Sadly, this tutoral didnt really do any checking when it come to coding, it was heres what to write and then link this to that, it was still an formal tutoral,i will be referecnceing it for coding in object with out puting them on my canvas first its a bit sad that i had to like drop this tutoral

Many others had a same problem that i had, which was that after coding everything, the intercation for moving around the pieces werent working

this could actually be due to me working on a newer unity version than the tutoral was done on (2019 vs 2022) Which could be the main problem and might be why the newer comments are about why the code, even when copyied, isnt working

i might come back to this another day as this is a problem with a little bit of expermentation i might be able to sort out

Paper

Visual Research

A page asking about what things have other people done with paper, kinda like the idea about weekly questions so i might keep doing it....
